Why I Wrote This Book

For twenty years, I have written software for machines that live by the clock. Every timer, every interrupt must land on its beat. If it doesn't, nothing works.

I am not a dancer. What drew me to Kathak was a familiar discipline, seen from the outside: a cycle of beats that must close exactly where it began.

The town in this book is close to the one I grew up in, near Wai.

Writing this book has quietly changed the way I listen. I notice the small things now: a pause, the way someone's hands rest, a smile that arrives a moment late. Sometimes, they tell a gentler story than words ever could.

The Rhythm of the Stone is the first book in the Sanjeevan Trilogy.
